--the diary of Vernon L. Burda
the homestead at Yuma Following is a copy of the diary my friend Burda kept of the march from the prison at Sagan Luft III to Moosburg VIIA. We first met in the interrogation prison in Budapest, Hungary and were together throughout our internment. Burda was a navigator and had the distinction of being shot down twice, the first was over Yugoslavia--his entire crew managed to get in the hands of friendly forces, and returned to their base in Italy. The second time they weren't quite as fortunate as they were shot down over Vienna, Austria--captured and taken prisoner.
