Although it is true that "I received no medals for bravery or
meritorious service," I did receive
(through the "back door")
two decorations that no one else on my crew received. These awards were given to me and no one else on our crew, due merely to a change in regulations. I was the last one of us to be separated from service (discharged), and the regulations had just been changed to award to POWs any unit citations and clusters that were given to his unit while he was incarcerated. I received a cluster on the ETO ribbon (European Theater of Operations) for the invasion of southern France--which my outfit participated in while I was in prison. I also received the Presidential Citation awarded to my unit.
