We turn to the east and enter the neighborhood known as "Camp Swahili Ju." "Ju" is the Swahili word for "up." This area is adjacent to the part of Camp Swahili that we just walked through, and has similar problems with bondage to alcohol.

near Camp Swahili Ju Camp Swahili Ju is the location of Moroto's Catholic Cathedral, which is home to a group of Charismatic Catholics. This group hosts "Life in the Spirit" seminars in southern Karamoja (Moroto District).

On December 17, 2000, the first Catholic Diocese in Tepez was opened.

Moroto's Civil Authority

North of Camp Swahili we come to the center of Moroto town at the Municipal Building. This place is the location of those who have governing authority in Moroto town and beyond--over the whole district of Moroto. Prayer is important for these people who can play such a key role in the future direction of the people of Karamoja.

Moroto Municipal Building Paul writes to Timothy: "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, Who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." This same exhortation is extended to us, so in this same Spirit, pray for the duly-appointed political leadership of Moroto.

Continuing north and west on our prayer walk, we come to the place of the Anglican Church of Moroto town. The Anglican Church in Moroto is currently headed by Bishop Peter Lomongin. The Anglican Church hosts the Saint Phillips guest house, where anyone can get an inexpensive overnight room.
