Bill Wins "Artist of the Year" Competition
As part of Bill's selection this past November as the New Braunfels Art League's "Artist of the Month," Bill joined nine other talented "Artists of the Month" in competition for the 2006 "Artist of the Year." At the NBAL gallery reception on the 11th, Bill was honored to be named NBAL's 2006 "Artist of the Year." In response to the selection, Bill said to the group at the reception: "I really consider it an honor to be able to hang my work here alongside the exceptional work of the other fine artists chosen to be Artists of the Month last year...and the other artists of the Art League as well."

The competition was judged by UTSA art professor emeritus, Charles Field. Field has also been on the faculties of the University of New Mexico, the University of Texas at Austin, Western Illinois University and the American Institute for Foreign Study in London. He is a Fellow of the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ireland and has had 29 solo exhibitions and over 100 group exhibitions in the United States and abroad. His work is represented in many public collections including the McNay Art Museum, the SBC Center, USAA, McGraw-Hill in New York, Austin Museum of Art, Texas Instruments, Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P., Texaco, Kronkosky Foundation, SBC Corporation and UTSA.

In praising Bill's work at the competition, Field stated that:

"Bill has a real sense of the visual to capture the essential facts of form in an exciting way."

After the reception, Bill reflected that "It is really a wonder to me to be able to see, and appreciate, the incredible beauty that surrounds us. And to have the wonderful opportunity of passing some of that beauty on to others is an unmerited gift from God."

The exhibit also consists of four works from each of the other nine 2006 "Artists of the Month" at the New Braunfels Art League's "Downtown Gallery" at 239 West San Antonio Street (right across the street from historic "Henne's Hardware"). The exhibit will run through January 30th and encompasses many media, including photography, acrylics, oils, watercolor, pastel, pencil and others. Some Canvases Still Available For Limited Edition
One of Bill's most highly praised works, CROWNED WITH THE CROSS (displayed here to the right), was one of the pieces gaining him selection as Artist of the Year. Many people viewing the canvas are impressed by the three-dimensional quality of the masonry texture, and remark about the rich display of other details. Others are quite taken by his unusual perspective of one of San Antonio's most beautiful and well-known landmarks.

Bill has produced this photograph as a 67" tall by 14" wide, stretched and gallery-wrapped archival canvas, and it is being limited to an edition of only 15 pieces. The piece displayed in the current exhibition was sold at the reception even before Bill had been selected Artist of the Year.
